Organisational constraints (processes, procedures, governance) often get a bad press and are perceived as hindrances to freedom, creativity and innovation in modern organisations who aspire to be flexible and adaptable. Some constraints, particularly poorly thought out ones, can be overly limiting and a hinderance to performance, but well designed constraints are what we call enabling constraints , they actually make it easier and simpler to get things done effectively and efficiently.
